Madrid is a vibrant and lively city, offering a perfect combination of culture, gastronomy, and history. Try the tapas at one of the many traditional bars and enjoy the lively nightlife of the Spanish capital. But here are some tips.
Use public transportation.
Madrid's public transport system works very well and has an extensive network throughout the city. The main tip is to buy a 10-trip ticket that works for both the metro and buses.
Tickets are sold at machines in the subway, including at the airport.
We recommend using Google Maps or Citymapper to find the best way to get where you want to go.
Airport transfer
If you're traveling alone, it's best to take the metro, as the total trip costs less than 12 euros. If you're with more people, we recommend taking an Uber or Bolt (Uber's competitor). Read the instructions in the app, as the driver will stop inside the parking garage.
Downtown
Like any large city center, it has a lot of history, various tourist traps, souvenir shops, and unfortunately, pickpockets.
Parque do Retiro
We recommend going to the Crystal Palace, seeing the lake with the boats, and having a beer at Florida Park.
Museus
Prado Museum. It has days when admission is free (with huge queues): Mon-Sat: 6pm-8pm and Sun: 5pm-7pm.
Reina Sofía Museum. Free admission: Mon, Wed-Sat: 7pm-9pm and Sun: 12:30pm-2:30pm

Museum of the History of Madrid - free admission
